The Valerian Gunia Union of Young Theatre Artists – OISTAT National Centre of
Georgia is pleased to announce an open call for national curatorial participation in the 6th
Tbilisi Biennale of Stage Design, which will take place from 6/7 October to 17 October
2026 in Tbilisi, Georgia. This international event provides a dynamic platform for professional exchange,
visibility, and collaboration within the global stage design community.
Due to ongoing military conflicts in the Middle East, the deadline for submitting
applications has been extended to 1 May 2026.
About the Tbilisi Biennale of Stage Design
Founded in 2016, the Tbilisi Biennale of Stage Design has established itself as a
significant international platform supporting both emerging and established stage
designers. Organized by the Valerian Gunia Union of Young Theatre Artists, the
Biennale fosters professional development, cross-cultural dialogue, and international
networking through exhibitions, forums, symposia, and educational programmes,
including MasterLab.
Key Activities
• International Exhibition of National and Professional Expositions (Mixed formats- in –
person/online, including photography and video, are accepted)
• Open Forum / Tbilisi International Symposium (Themes: “War and Theatre” and
“Theatre and Fashion”)
• Educational Programme – MasterLab (Lectures and masterclasses; to be confirmed)General Information
Theme: Theatre and Fashion
Biennale dates: 6/7–17 October 2026
• Each participating country will be represented by a national pavilion.
• Each pavilion is curated and coordinated by a national curator, responsible for selecting
participating artists.
• National curators oversee the organization of their country’s exposition.
Eligibility Criteria for Participants
• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in theatre, cinema, television, multimedia
scenography, or video games
• Participation of artists must be coordinated through national curators
Eligibility Criteria for Works
• Works must have been realized or premiered between 2024–2026
• Accepted formats include (but are not limited to): sketches, photographs, performances,
videos, animations, installations, multimedia scenography, costumes, scale models,
puppets, etc.
• International participants are encouraged to present original sketches. Where export
restrictions apply, high-quality prints will be accepted.
Selection Procedure
• Participants are selected and represented by national curators
• Participation is confirmed upon completion of the contractual process

Technical Conditions
Each country will be allocated approximately 20–25 square metres
• Installation period: 2 full working days
• Dismantling period: 1 day• Participants are responsible for travel, transportation, and production costs
• All technical requirements must be agreed upon in advance with the Biennale
organizers
Registration Fee and Payment Procedure
The registration fee is 100 EUR per participating country
• Payment is required only after the official agreement has been signed
• National curators will sign a participation agreement with the Valerian Gunia Union of
Young Theatre Artists
• The agreement defines the terms, conditions, and procedures of participation in the
Biennale
• The contract template will be provided to selected curators
• Upon signing the agreement, the registration fee must be transferred to the Union’s official
bank account
